The St. John’s Prep hockey team bounced back from a tough loss on Wednesday to earn a 4-0 shutout victory over Central Catholic on Thursday afternoon in the consolation game of the 9th annual Pete Frates Winter Classic.
Lynnfield native Christian Rosa scored a goal in the win for the Prep, while Theo Vetere, Zack Raposa and Jake Vana each scored a goal as well. Freshman goalie Luke Quinn earned both his first career win and first career shutout.
St. John’s Prep (2-1-0) hosts Andover Wednesday evening (6:30).
BOYS HOCKEY
Swampscott 5, Nashoba 1
The Big Blue went on the road and picked up their first win of the season behind an all-around team effort.
Max Gadon led the way with two goals for Swampscott, while Aidan Sprague, Kody Langevain and Will Roddy each had one goal and one assist. Zack Ryan, Zack Pierce and TJ McCarthy each had one assist, while goalie Jason Bouffard notched 21 saves to earn the victory in net.
Swampscott (1-2-0) will take on Lynn Monday (6) in the Lynn Christmas Tournament.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Salem 60, Lynn Tech 31
Despite the loss, the Tigers got a phenomenal performance from Dayana Hios-Edwards, who finished the game with 26 points.
Tech (2-2) will face off against Lynn Classical Monday (noon) in the Walter Boverini Tournament.
BOYS INDOOR TRACK
Malden 62, Lynn English 22
English had one winner on the day, with Stephen Srey taking first place in the shot put (45 feet, 11 3/4 inches). Other strong performances for the Bulldogs came from Ernie Panais in the 50-yard dash (third place, 6.2 seconds), Isaiah Joinville in the 300-meter (third place, 46.8), Walter Estrada in the 600 (third place, 1:53.1) and Adam Elqanoun in the 1000 (fourth place, 3:31.6).

Top performers for Classical were Kymani Phipps in the 50 hurdles (second place, 8.8), Jose Cruz in the 50 dash (fourth place, 6.3), and Angel Castro in the one-mile (second place, 5:42.1).

Malden 47, Lynn English 29
The Bulldogs got wins from Cynaya Jackson in the shot put (27-8), Kendra Malcolm in the 50 dash (6.63) and Amy Gutierrez in the 600 (2:05.4).

Top performers for Classical were Lily Newell in the 50 dash (fourth place, 7.5) and Joseline Mejia in the two-mile (second place, 17:07).
