The Lynn Jets hockey team took home a monumental win Saturday night at Connery Rink, as the team snapped a two-year losing streak by notching a 9-4 win over East Boston.
Prior to Saturday, the last win for the Jets came on March 2, 2018 against Shawsheen in the Division 3 North tournament.
Jaylen Porter — who was a freshman on that 2018 team — scored three goals in the win, as did Gavin Kennedy. Matt Cote and Stevan Downey each scored one goal, while Kyle Candilieri scored his first career varsity goal and added two assists.
Lynn (1-1-0) returns to the ice Wednesday (5:30) for a matchup against Somerville.
BOYS HOCKEY
St. John’s Prep 8, Hingham 2
The Prep offense was clicking in the season opener Saturday, as Tommy Sarni (three goals) and Will Van Sicklin (two goals) led the way in the victory. Jimmy Ayers, Jeff Melanson and Joe Melanson each scored one goal in the win, while Cole Blaeser and Theodore Vetere each had one assist. Goalie Brian Cronin, who was a last-minute starter, recorded 25 saves to earn the win in net.
St. John’s Prep (1-0-0) takes on BC High Wednesday (1) in the first round of the ninth annual Pete Frates Winter Classic.
St. Mary’s 0, Newburyport 0
The Spartans and Clippers battled to a scoreless tie on the road at Henry Graf Memorial Rink Saturday.
St. Mary’s (2-0-1) hosts Bishop Fenwick Wednesday night (8) at Connery Rink.
Masconomet 6, Marblehead 2
Carter Laramie and Connor Jalbert each scored one goal in the loss, while Christopher Locke had one assist.
Marblehead (0-2-0) is back in action Thursday (3:30) in a road game against Lowell Catholic at Tsongas Center.
Rockport 4, Swampscott 1
The lone goal for the Big Blue came off the stick of Zack Pierce, while Aidan Sprague added one assist.
Swampscott (0-2-0) plays on the road at Nashoba Wednesday (7:10).
Arlington Catholic 2, Bishop Fenwick 1
Manny Alvarez-Segee scored the lone goal for Fenwick in the loss Saturday.

Peabody/Lynnfield 7, Shawsheen 2
The Tanners exploded on the offensive end Saturday, with 10 different skaters registering a point in the win.
Hannah Gromko led the way with two goals and one assist, while Chloe Considine scored two goals. Jenna DiNapoli, Mia Lava and Lily Piscatelli each scored one goal, while Sarah Powers had three assists and Avery Bird had two assists.
Peabody/Lynnfield (3-1-0) is now off until Dec. 29 (5:15), when the Tanners will take on Winthrop.
Marblehead 4, Beverly/Danvers 3 (OT) (Saturday)
It was Hannah Tsouvalas who notched the game-winner in overtime Saturday to propel the Magicians to victory. Tsouvalas scored two goals in the win for Marblehead.
Elsa Wood also scored two goals for the Magicians, while goalie Lily Francoeur put up an incredible performance in net. Elle Seller added one assist in the win.
Marblehead 3, Pope Francis 2 (Sunday)
Elsa Wood had another great game with three goals, while Ashley Piersol had two assists. Jane Whitten and Hannah Tsouvalas each had one assist.
Marblehead (3-2-0) returns to action Wednesday (6:30) against Winthrop.

Fenwick (1-1-1) travels to Arlington Catholic on Dec. 29 (8:15).

First Baptist Academy 53, St. Mary’s 50 (OT)
After the Spartans held a 33-24 lead at the halftime break, First Baptist battled all the way back before hitting a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to force overtime before stealing the win.

Behind a balanced scoring attack from Niya Morgen (19 points), Yirsy Queliz (15 points) and Kellyn Preira (10 points), the Spartans kicked off their Florida trip with a blowout victory Saturday afternoon.
St. Mary’s (4-0) takes on Gulf Coast Monday evening (5:30).
Bishop Fenwick 58, Nauset 29
Sophomore Cecilia Kay notched her second straight double-double in the win, picking up 15 points and 11 rebounds. Senior captain Nasha Arnold also had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
