The St. Mary’s girls basketball team got its season started off on the right foot Friday night, knocking off perennial Division 2 powerhouse Pentucket by a score of 59-37 on the road.
Junior Niya Morgen, who transferred in from Swampscott this year, made an incredible impression in her debut after notching a double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Yirsy Queliz added 21 points and 11 assists in the win.
St. Mary’s (1-0) travels to Arlington Catholic Tuesday evening (6:30).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
KIPP 52, Nashoba 22
The Panthers were led to victory behind senior Tatiana Megie-Maddrey, who scored a career-high 25 points in the win. Freshman Jaiska De La Cruz added 20 points in the winning effort.
KIPP (1-0) is back in action Tuesday evening (5:30) on the road at Greater Lawrence.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Northeast 47, KIPP 34
Piero Canales led the way in the loss for the Panthers with 13 points and six rebounds.
KIPP (0-1) returns to the floor next Friday (6:30) when it hosts Greater Lawrence.

St. Mary’s at Tri-County Meet
The highest finisher for the Spartans was John Nowicki, who finished seventh in the 55 hurdles with a time of 9.24 seconds. Kyle Kwiatek placed eighth in the one-mile (4:52.55).
St. Mary’s won’t run again until Dec. 20 for another Tri-County Meet at Boston University.
Bishop Fenwick at Tri-County Meet
The lone win for the Crusaders came from Nick Caputo, who took first in the weight throw with a distance of 42-1/2. Wyatt Burr finished second in the 600 (1:28.93), while Declan Smith finished second in the 1000 (2:52.48),
Fenwick returns to the track Sunday (6) for the Winterfest Meet.
St. John’s Prep at Tri-County Meet
The Eagles got wins from Jason Bois in the 55 hurdles (8.23), Tyee Ambrosh in the 300 (37.37) and Felix Rogovin in the two-mile (10:13.86) and Drew McStay in the high jump (6-0).
St. John’s Prep runs again on Dec. 20 in a quad meet against St. John’s (Shrewsbury), Xaverian, BC High and Brockton.

St. Mary’s at Tri-County Meet
The Spartans got wins from Juliana Taborda in the 600 (1:53.87) and Anna Fringuelli in the high jump (4-8). Kelsey Kwiatek finished second in the one-mile (5:54.70), Fringuelli finished third in the 300 (49.16) and Summer Marston finished second in the high jump (4-6).
St. Mary’s won’t run again until Dec. 20 for another Tri-County Meet at Boston University.
Bishop Fenwick at Tri-County Meet
Lucia Conte became the very first Fenwick runner to qualify for the state tournament when she took first place in the 55 hurdles with a time of 9.19 seconds. Shannon Bresnahan added a win in the 1000 (3:29.67), while Julia Loescher won both the long jump (29-7 1/4) and the weight throw (37-1/2). Celia Krouse finished second in the 300 (48.43) and Catherine Carter finished second in the 1000 (3:30.55).
Fenwick will run again Sunday (6) at the Winterfest Meet.
