SWAMPSCOTT — The town has announced a vacancy on its Housing Authority board and needs someone to fill that role.
A press release issued Monday states that Swampscott is looking for candidates with experience in public housing and who are ready to work with others on the board and town departments.
“The resident must be willing to work collaboratively with others and assist with identifying solutions to some of the Housing Authority’s regular challenges,” the release said. “Candidates will undergo mandatory training from various organizations to become familiar with all aspects of the Housing Authority as well as requirements for serving on a public body.”
The Housing Authority board consists of five members responsible for ensuring public housing and maintenance in Swampscott are in line with federal and state policies. Members are to hold monthly meetings and build community relationships.
Swampscott Housing Authority Executive Director Irma Chez said the vacancy could cause problems, such as deadlocked votes on housing items.
“We could have a two-and-two tie,” Chez said. “We need this seat filled.”
The town is seeking those who are passionate about housing to apply. Diversity and perspectives are two welcomed aspects that Chez says should encourage individuals to take interest in this job.
“Anyone is welcome to apply,” said Chez. “The town and ourselves will be working together to try and find the next board member that our town truly needs to fill that seat, which is vacant at this time.”
Those who wish to apply can send a resume and letter of interest to Swampscott Communications Director Allie Fiske at [email protected]. Those who have more questions can call 781-596-8850 ext.1226 for any additional information.
The deadline for applications is Jan. 5.
