LYNN ― A 7-Eleven in Wyoma Square has to temporarily shut down after an SUV wiped out its wall in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The accident happened at 4:19 a.m. at a 7-Eleven convenience store located at 3 Lynnfield St. in Wyoma Square. A Jeep Cherokee crashed into its wall, causing severe damage to the building, said Capt. Joseph Zukas, spokesperson for the Lynn Fire Department.
Two people in the car, a man and a woman, claimed they fell asleep at the wheel, said Zukas, but he was not able to say who was driving the vehicle.
The Lynn Fire Department sent two engines, a ladder, and a couple of ambulances to the scene, a safety officer and the district chief.
“We had a lot of resources there,” said Zukas.
Firefighters worked for about an hour and used two separate sets of Jaws of Life to extricate the individuals from the Jeep, who seemed to have sustained minor injuries, said Zukas. They were transported to Salem Hospital for further examination and observation.
The city’s Inspectional Services Department determined that the 7-Eleven had to close down temporarily, Zukas said.
