LYNN — The Department of Public Works began preparing the downtown area for Christmas this week, putting together the nativity scene and hanging ornaments on the Christmas tree on the Commons.
To mark the start of the Christmas season, City Hall, the Greater Lynn Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Lynn Cultural District are partnering to host a festival of lights event in Central Square on Monday night from 4 to 6 p.m.
There will be a tree and menorah lighting at 5:15 p.m., and the Salvation Army will be serving hot chocolate and coffee.
The St. Mary’s choir will be there performing, as well as the All-City Marching Band.
The holiday festivities will continue on Tuesday at 5 p.m. with a tree-lighting ceremony on the Commons.
The Lynn Public Schools Chorus will host a holiday sing-a-long and Santa Claus and Mayor Thomas M. McGee will light the tree.
The All-City Marching Band and the Salvation Army will be in attendance on Tuesday night as well, offering music and refreshments.
McGee invites the community to bring friends and family to the annual festivities.
