LYNN ― Hector Diaz Emiliano, also known as Nelson J. Rodriguez Figueroa, was sentenced to life without parole after a jury found him guilty of first degree murder.
Emiliano, of Lowell, was convicted of killing a Lynn man in 2014 outside of the Harbor View Apartments on Sagamore Street.
During a 10-day trial in Salem Superior Court, Essex assistant district attorneys Jessica Strasnick and Lindsay Nasson showed evidence that proved that Emiliano shot Omar Ortiz Lopez, 35, in the head on Nov. 29, 2014.
Emiliano fled the country before U.S. Marshals arrested him in January of 2018 in Puerto Rico.
Judge Janice Howe sentenced Emiliano to life without parole and also found him guilty of carrying a firearm without a license.
ADAs Strasnick and Nasson were assisted by Essex Victim Witness Advocate Maria Arroyo-Long.
They commended Massachusetts State Police Trooper Matt Wilson, Lynn Police Detective Paul Galetis and U.S. Marshal Neil Sullivan for their work on the investigation and apprehension of the defendant.
