It was a weekend full of races for cross country teams across the state, and a number of local teams put up strong finishes in their respective divisional championships.
In the Division 3A Championship, the Lynnfield girls finished in second place overall with a score of 85. Leading the way was Maddie Daigle, who finished 11th overall with a time of 20:30. Following her was Gabby Bottaro (21:22, 16th), Viola Wertz (21:27, 18th), Kaila George (21:28, 19th), Olivia Goguen (22:13, 34th), Kaleigh Weeks (22:25, 37th) and Julia Seelig (23:13, 57th).
On the boys side for Lynnfield, the Pioneers finished seventh overall with a score of 200. Leading the way for the boys was John McKrell, who finished with a time of 17:37 (11th overall). Also finishing well for Lynnfield was Angelo DeLuca (18:14, 20th), Srivanth Tudi (19:22, 55th), Shea McCarthy (19:32, 58th), Lucas Williams (19:52, 67th), Charles Beatrice (19:53, 68th) and Andrew Shone (19:58, 73rd).
Over in the Division 1C Championship, the Marblehead boys took home second place with 82 points despite missing top runner Peter Clifford, who was sick. Led by junior Harrison Kee’s 11th place finish in 16:37, the pack of Marblehead’s top five runners finished within 22 seconds of each other. Senior captain Will Lamb also earned a medal with his 15th place finish in 16:49. Junior Ryan Thompson (16:56, 17th), freshman Will Cerrutti (16:57, 18th) and sophomore Isaac Gross (16:59, 21st) rounded out the team scoring. Junior David DiCostanzo (17:24, 37th) and senior Owen Murphy (18:26, 78th) also had strong finishes.
On the girls side for Marblehead, the Magicians finished in 10th place. They were led by senior Juliet Poss’ 33rd place finish in 20:47. She was supported by senior Kate Simcoe (21:20, 45th), senior Claire Tips (21:59, 61st), senior Brandolyn Smith (22:28, 70th), junior Saylor Caruso (22:37, 75th), sophomore Cat Piper (22:42, 79th) and junior Maya Mahoney (22:56, 86th).
In the Division 1B Championship, Peabody put up a 12th place finish on the boys side and a 14th place finish on the girls side. The boys were led by Logan Tracia’s second place finish (15:50), while Ryan Faletra (17:18, 55th), Gabe Gitonga (17:20, 56th) and Dylan Faletra (17:40, 78th) also had strong finishes.
For the Peabody girls, Sarah Divasta was the top finisher after coming in 22nd place (19:46). Cailyn Buckley (20:47, 60th), Ava Buckley (21:17, 76th) and Leah O’Neill (21:26, 80th) also finished well.
In the boys Division 1A Championship, St. John’s Prep finished second overall finish with a score of 122. Two Prep runners placed in the top five, with Charlie Tuttle placing second (15:09) and Nathan Lopez placing fifth (15:44). Other top finishers for the Eagles were Felix Rogovin (16:35, 32nd), Luc Santos (16:39, 40th) and Jack Stein (16:42, 46th).
St. Mary’s had a solid day on both sides in the Division 2C Championship, with the boys placing 11th and the girls placing 15th. The boys got a great performance from Kyle Kwiatek, who finished in sixth place with a time of 17:13 — the fastest of any sophomore in the race. Other strong finishes for the Spartans came from Jesse Moriello (18:37, 29th place), Matheus Menezes Avendanha (19:53, 87th) and Matt Terrien (20:03, 92nd).
On the girls side for St. Mary’s, Kelsey Kwiatek led the way with a ninth place finish (20:31), making her the only middle schooler in the top 15 of the race. Other solid finishes came from Anna Fringuelli (24:21, 86th), Nina Lopes (25:00, 103rd), Gabriela Marichal (26:17, 126th) and Julia Jo Gramolini (27:55, 139th).
Also in the Division 2C Championship, Bishop Fenwick saw the boys team finish eighth and the girls team finish 12th. The boys had two runners finish in the top 10, with Wyatt Burr placing eighth (17:21) and Declan Smith placing ninth (17:26). Other strong finishes came from Andre Santos (18:44, 42nd), Ethan Henshaw (19:43, 80th) and Matt Cinelli (20:03, 91st).
On the girls side, Maria Ryan was the top finisher in 57th place (22:44). Other solid finishes came from Shannon Bresnahan (23:00, 64th), Sarah Fogarty (24:11, 82nd) and Catherine Carter (24:42, 94th).
Swampscott, which had both the boys and girls teams finish 17th, got strong finishes in the Division 2C Championship from Anton Khripko (18:05, 27th), Leland Howe (20:00, 89th) and Dylan Brawley (20:40, 105th) on the boys side. For the girls, Olivia King (22:53, 60th), Aileen Cornwall-Brady (24:39, 93rd) and Evelyn Richardson (24:44, 95th) had strong finishes.
