LYNN ― Teen health ambassadors from Girls Inc. are hosting a menstrual-product drive to try to end “period poverty” through Wednesday, Nov. 24.
A survey from Oct. 2019 done by period-equity organization Period. Inc., and period-underwear company Thinx, showed that one in five teens has struggled to afford and/or were unable to purchase period products.
It also showed that 25 percent of teen girls have missed class because of a lack of access to monthly supplies.
Girls Inc. of Lynn Executive Director Deb Ansourlian said she is proud of the teen health ambassadors for taking a leadership role to help girls gain access to period products.
“This public-health crisis is often ignored and adversely affects many students from low-income families who miss school because of their inability to afford menstrual products,” Ansourlian said.
The ambassadors will be collecting pads, tampons, and pantiliners of all shapes and sizes through this drive.
Donations can be dropped at the collection box in the Girls Inc. lobby at 50 High St. between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Product donations through Amazon Wish List can be made at https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/12REVBRXPUNZX?ref_=wl_share.
All donated products will be brought to the Lynn Community Health Center’s school-based centers throughout the community.
