SWAMPSCOTT — At least two teenagers were taken to the hospital with alcohol poisoning after police dispersed a large party on Linden Avenue Saturday night.
About 300 to 400 teenagers gathered for a party at a house on Linden Avenue near the Tedesco Country Club on Saturday night, while adult owners of the house were at home. The Swampscott Police Department had to call their Marblehead colleagues for assistance to round up the party, according to Swampscott Police Sgt. Jay Locke, a department spokesman.
At least two teenagers were hospitalized with alcohol poisoning, Locke said.
“It was an upheaval for the neighborhood,” he said.
Police found several drinking areas and stations set up throughout the scene and recovered numerous bottles and cans of alcohol. Neighbors saw teenagers running though yards trying to leave the area, Locke said.
Police had to make sure that no one was driving their vehicles while intoxicated, Locke said.
The owners of the house, David and Wesleini Potter, were charged for furnishing alcohol to minors and disturbing the peace. They said that they didn’t know that the teenagers were drinking and that 80 to 100 people were invited. The information about the party went out on social media and more people showed up than expected, said Locke.
Furnishing alcohol to minors is punishable with a fine of not more than $2,000 and/or up to one year in prison.
