The Lynn English football team picked up its first win of the season in dominant fashion Friday night, exploding on offense and forcing four turnovers on defense to notch a 54-8 win over Medford in a Greater Boston League tilt at Manning Field.
Running back Wesley Chandler had a big night with three rushing touchdowns, while quarterback Jesse Maggs threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another. Lionel Rivera and Ernie Panais each had a rushing touchdown in the victory, while Josh McDonald and Shea Palmer each had a touchdown reception.
English (1-4) has a bye week before it plays on the road at Malden Oct. 22 (6).
FOOTBALL
St. Mary’s 35, Bishop Stang 12
David Brown Jr. continued his stellar season for the Spartans, leading the way with four total touchdowns -— two rushing and two receiving. Donovan Clark added a touchdown run in the win, while quarterback Ali Barry threw two touchdown passes.
St. Mary’s (5-0) hosts Arlington Catholic Friday (6).
Bishop Fenwick 31, Cardinal Spellman 0
The Crusaders bounced back from last week’s loss with a big win on the road at Spellman.
Quarterback Steven Woods completed 17-of-23 passes for 162 yards and four touchdowns in the win for Fenwick, with receiver Jason Romans (eight receptions for 85 yards and two touchdowns) catching two of them. Costa Beechin and Chris Faraca each had a touchdown reception, while Aidan Silva kicked a field goal. Running back Troy Irizarry led the team on the ground with 10 carries for 86 yards.
Fenwick (4-1) hosts Archbishop Williams Friday (7).
Marblehead 33, Masconomet 21
Things weren’t looking great at halftime for the Magicians, but Marblehead rallied back from a 21-7 deficit to score 26 unanswered points in the second half and come from behind on the road in a Northeastern Conference battle.
Running back Connor Cronin and quarterback Josh Robertson were the catalysts for the Marblehead comeback, with Cronin rushing for more than 100 yards and three touchdowns while also catching a touchdown pass. Robertson threw for a touchdown and rushed for another in the win.
Marblehead (5-0) will have an extra day off before taking on Beverly next Saturday morning (10).
Winthrop 32, Gloucester 0
Quarterback Robert Noonan threw for one touchdown and rushed for another in the win for the Vikings, while running backs Cam Martin and Evan Rockefeller each rushed for a touchdown. Mikey Chaves had a touchdown reception in the victory, while Juan Sanchez made a 25-yard field goal to round out the scoring.
Winthrop (2-3) hosts Peabody Friday (7).
