To the editor:
On Sept. 11, The Daily Item ran a story about my experiences at Ground Zero in New York City 20 years ago. I thought the story was extremely well done. I brought to the interview for the story a few dozen photographs I took at Ground Zero.
During the interview, the reporter asked me to spread the photos on a large table, then proceeded to take pictures of my photos. After my wife and I went to the 20th anniversary ceremony at Ground Zero, we looked at itemlive.com and saw that my photos were for sale.
I contacted The Item and was told that they weren’t selling my photos, they were selling pictures of my photos. They said that once they take pictures of other photos, they become property of the paper.
I only want the public to know that I had absolutely nothing to do with the sale. Any proceeds went to The Item. I would never, and have never sold a single photo. It was a promise I made to the people I worked with in New York.
