LYNN — The Lynn Classical volleyball team kept its undefeated season alive Wednesday evening, outlasting Greater Boston League foe Medford for a 3-1 win. The Rams took the match by set scores of 25-12, 25-14, 16-25, and 25-16.
“I thought we played really well and we had a couple of kids really step up,” said Classical coach Chris LeBlanc. “All in all, we played well outside of the third set. We ran the offense, we scrapped and we pulled out the win.”
Samantha Thoeun had a big game for the Rams with 14 assists and six aces, while Linda Jallow notched five aces. Chloe Clement had 12 kills and three aces, while Reese Brinkler added five kills.
Although Medford took the first point of the opening set, Classical quickly took control and jumped out to an 11-5 lead. The Rams never looked back from there, stretching the lead to 20-8 before eventually taking the set 25-12.
That momentum carried right into the second set, with Classical jumping ahead 3-0 before eventually rolling to a big 25-14 set win.
The third set was a bit different. The Rams stayed hot and jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but Medford turned the tables and tied the score at 8-8 in short order. Classical was never able to get back on top from there, as Medford stretched its lead to 19-11 before winning the set 25-16.
But the Rams didn’t let that hiccup get to them. Classical came out in the fourth set and jumped ahead early, going up 14-6 before Medford called a timeout. It didn’t do much to change things, as Classical closed things out with a service point from Brinkler to win the set 25-16 and take the match.
“I wasn’t happy with that third set, but in the fourth set we were able to get a couple of runs going where we were able to get a few points on serves,” said LeBlanc. “Reese and Chloe came up big with a lot of service points in that last set, and they’ve been doing that all year.”
Classical (5-0) hosts Everett Friday evening (5:15).
“We’re five games in and we still have a lot of growing to do and a lot to learn,” said LeBlanc. “We’re running a new offense and getting used to that and working on our communication, but they’re really picking it up and I couldn’t ask for any more from them.”
