LYNN ― Security at Pickering Middle School and neighboring Sisson Elementary School will be increased next week after school staff found a threat of a shooting written in a bathroom at the middle school.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Patrick Tutwiler said that while law enforcement determined that the message, which said that a shooting would occur on Saturday, Sept. 25, was unsubstantiated and not credible, there would be an additional police presence at the two schools to be safe.
“We take every single issue of that sort seriously, and always involve law enforcement,” Tutwiler said. “We also communicate, which puts some ill at ease, but we feel like that information is important for our families to have.”
In addition to the presence of a school resource officer stationed at Pickering, police will be at the school on Friday, Sept. 24 and Monday, Sept. 27.
Messages were sent to families at both Pickering and Sisson on Monday to inform them of the issue.
