It was a great start to the new season for the Marblehead girls soccer team, as the Magicians dominated possession and netted two timely goals to take home a 2-0 win over Northeastern Conference foe Winthrop Thursday evening at Miller Field.
Annie Sheridan and Cait Mullins each scored a goal in the win, while Ella Kramer notched two assists. Goalkeeper Catherine Comstock recorded her second career shutout in net.
Marblehead (1-0) travels to Swampscott Tuesday (4).

It was a big day for Helen Pojoy, who notched four goals to lead the offensive effort in the Tigers’ first win of the season. Sandy Garcia and Maria Barrios also played well in the victory, while Felicity Blaney and Cindy de Leon combined for the shutout in net.
Tech (1-1) takes on Lynn English Saturday morning (9) in the Lynn City Soccer Tournament consolation game.

Classical had seven different scorers for the second game in a row, getting one goal each from Delaney Dana, Tatiana Lazo, Victoria Medeiros, Molly Mannion, Jayda Mateo, Mea Papazoglou and Lauren Wilson.
Classical (2-0) will face St. Mary’s in the championship game of the Lynn City Soccer Tournament Saturday (12:45).

Isabel Bettencourt had a solid game in the loss with six aces and five kills, while Abby Bettencourt added 10 assists. Sarah Broughton had five aces, while Krissy Cardello notched four aces.

The Tigers opened up the 2021 season on a high note, taking the top three spots in the race en route to the victory. Allen Barrios finished first overall, while Brian Zarate finished second and Bryton Osgood finished third. Edwin Gomez (seventh place) and Anthony Perez (ninth place) also cracked the top 10 for Tech.
