To the editor:
Regarding Mr. Adam Wheeler’s comments on Tuesday’s Item Opinion page that Darren Cyr is above the law: That’s his opinion.
However, nothing could be further from the truth. Councilor Cyr has responded in kind in a recent article published in The Item, outlining the issues presented by the Massachusetts Office of Campaign and Political Finance, an independent agency that administers Massachusetts General Laws.
Apparently, this did not satisfy Mr. Wheeler.
Furthermore, I do not believe any candidate in the City of Lynn would willfully violate these laws.
To say it’s The Item’s job is to keep an eye on Darren Cyr — well, I beg to differ with that statement, and I’m sure many others who know him will also concur.
Does Mr. Wheeler have a bone to pick with Councilor Cyr? Who knows?
In closing, let’s have the Office of Campaign and Political Finance deal with it. If there’s any willful violations, fines will be issued.
