LYNNFIELD ― In partnership with Pelmeds Pharmacy, the Lynnfield Public Schools will hold a second-dose COVID-19 vaccination clinic on Monday, Aug. 30 from 4-6 p.m. at Lynnfield Middle School, just in time for the first day of school on Sept. 1.
The clinic is the second offered in the district in the last three weeks. Earlier this month, School Committee Chair Rich Sjoberg said the rationale behind the clinics was to give parents one final opportunity to get their eligible children vaccinated before the school year begins.
As of an Aug. 27 COVID-19 Dashboard update posted on the district’s website, 72 percent of Lynnfield High School students have been fully vaccinated, while only 54 percent of middle school students have been vaccinated. The largest group of students that are fully vaccinated is grade 9, at 84 percent. Seventh graders comprise the group with the lowest vaccination rate at 48 percent, the only grade falling below the 50 percent mark.
The clinic is open to all Lynnfield students aged 12 and up as well as staff members. While most participants will receive the second part of the two-dose Pfizer vaccination series, the clinic is also open to people for first doses.
If you will be receiving your first dose, you will be responsible for attaining your second dose no sooner than 21 days after the first dose at any other location, such as a pharmacy or other vaccination sites.
For those receiving their second dose, a vaccination card must be presented.
Pelmeds has assured the town that there will be enough vaccines for everyone who registers. Pre-registration is required to ensure there are enough doses. No walk-ins will be accepted. Residents are asked to not rush to sign up as it will overload the system. There will be enough vaccines for all who want one.
Students and staff who have already received their first dose of the Pfizer series at another location are also welcome to register to receive their second shot as long as there has been at least three weeks between doses.
Insurance information will be requested. However, lack of insurance will not prevent anyone from receiving the vaccine. If you have insurance, please enter your insurance information in the online registration. There is no need to bring the insurance card to the clinic.
A COVID Vaccine Consent Form found on the registration site must be completed, printed and brought to the clinic. Students must be 12 years of age and over to receive the vaccine and parental consent is required. Even though a consent form was filled out for the first dose, you must fill out a separate consent form in order to receive the second dose.
Regardless of vaccination status, Lynnfield students (and all other public-school students in Massachusetts) will be required to to wear masks inside schools at least through Oct. 1 following the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Aug. 24 vote authorizing Commissioner Jeffrey Riley to issue a statewide mask mandate.
