MARBLEHEAD — A man was pulled from a 16-foot crevice at Castle Rock on Saturday, the town’s fire department said.
At approximately 3:40 p.m., Marblehead Fire Department responded to a call that a man had fallen into the crevice, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page. The man had sustained injuries during the fall and was unable to get out on his own.
Two firefighters went into the crevice to provide medical attention, and Marblehead Police Department and Cataldo Atlantic Ambulance also responded to the scene to provide more assistance.
The man was extricated from the crevice using ladders, ropes, harnesses and a stokes basket, then carried down the steep terrain to a stretcher. He was transferred to a Boston hospital for treatment.
Salem Fire Department covered the town while Marblehead firefighters were on the scene, the Facebook post said.
