SWAMPSCOTT — A man who was the subject of a town-wide search last week has been ordered to be held without bail for domestic assault.
David Ring, 57, was arrested July 1 after a search in the area of Puritan Road that included Massachusetts State Police K9 units and a helicopter.
In a dangerousness hearing held Friday at Lynn District Court, the assault victim testified that Ring had been living in her home in Swampscott. They were having an argument and Ring allegedly started choking her, telling her he was going to kill her.
“I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t move. I felt like I was going to die,” the victim said. “I could see his yellow teeth in my face saying he was going to kill me.”
The victim further testified that Ring pushed her head down into a couch. When she got away, she grabbed her keys and ran out of the house to drive to a friend’s home, but when she saw the marks on her neck in the rearview mirror she decided instead to drive to the Swampscott police station and report the incident.
After being interviewed by police, the victim was transported by ambulance to Salem Hospital for evaluation and discharged the same day.
She said that there had been one prior incident in which Ring had assaulted her, but she had not reported that incident to the police.
Ring will next appear in court for a pretrial hearing on Aug. 5.
