SWAMPSCOTT — The town will hold a low-cost rabies vaccination clinic for cats and dogs this Thursday, June 24 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Pet owners can bring their animals to the Department of Public Works yard, 200 Paradise Road, to have them vaccinated for $10 by veterinarian Dr. Arthur Freedman of Swampscott.
“Some people don’t go to vets regularly, so we’re just trying to make it easy for them,” said Mary Ellen Fletcher, who is organizing the clinic with Freedman.
State law requires that all cats and dogs six months of age or older must be vaccinated against rabies.
Fletcher said that if a pet has been vaccinated before, pet owners can bring the vaccine certification, even if it is expired, and they can receive a three-year — instead of one-year — vaccine. She recommended that if pet owners do not have a copy of the vaccine record, they may be able to get one from their town clerk or veterinarian’s office.
The clinic is open to all local residents, not just those in Swampscott. No advance registration is required.
