To the editor:
I had the real pleasure to teach at the Drewicz School in Lynn for 20 years. I loved teaching about Lynn’s history — taking classes at the Lynn Historical Society on its former Green Street site and its present new facilities.
I loved teaching about Harry Agganis, who went to the old Breed School. He is a real icon and hero worth learning about. I made Fluff marshmallow sandwiches for my students — more Lynn history!
I worked with Doneeca (Lynn Museum Director Doneeca Thurston) at the Peabody Essex Museum (PEM). She is a bright shining star and loving citizen of Lynn.
We could not ask for a better ambassador of Lynn than Doneeca.
PEM has a new beautiful exhibit, “In American Waters,” from Rockwell to Wyeth. There is a beautiful painting by Charles Herbert Woodbury (1864-1940) who grew up in Lynn and went to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology studying engineering.
He loved painting with oil on canvas and helped start an artist community in Ogunquit, Maine. Austen Barron Bailley, Daniel Finnamore, George Schwartz and Sarah Chasse curated the show.
If I was still teaching in Lynn, I would share Woodbury’s legacy with students.
