LYNN — A Lynn man charged with murder in the death of his 80-year-old mother over the weekend has pleaded not guilty to the crime.
Alfredo Paratore, 49, of 112 Jenness St., was arrested and charged after he reported finding his mother, Katherine Paratore, dead in their home at around 8 p.m. Friday night. Paratore was arraigned in Lynn District Court Monday and ordered held without bail at Bridgewater State Hospital.
According to the police report in the case, the Lynn Police and Fire departments responded to Paratore’s home where they found that Katherine had been beaten to death. Police officers reported that Paratore seemed confused and appeared to be under the influence of drugs, and he said that he had taken Suboxone approximately 15 minutes before. Police eventually gave him two doses of Narcan, the lifesaving overdose drug, before he was transported to Salem Hospital for evaluation.
Inside the home, Katherine Paratore was found on the floor just inside the front door, and appeared to have been dead for some time. She had no shirt on and had bruises on her arms, neck and head, as well as lacerations on her collarbone and hand. Blood spatter, a set of dentures and internal organs were found on the floor and walls around the body, according to the police report.
Police reported noticing that Alfredo Paratore had fresh scratches on his face and dried blood on his knuckles and the rings he was wearing.
In interviews with family members, police determined that Paratore had a history of alcohol and drug abuse, and they had had concerns that he was verbally abusive to his mother, the report said.
In the police report, officers noted that a clinician had requested a well-being check on Paratore at approximately 3 p.m. Friday after she was unable to reach him. The officers that responded spoke to Paratore through an open window and he declined to come to the door to speak with them, saying that he had difficulty walking due to gout, but declined medical attention.
Paratore will next appear in court on June 30.
