LYNN — The proud Lynners behind Bent Water Brewing Company announced that they will release the second installment in a series of beers in tribute to the city they call home on Tuesday.
Known as “Timeless,” this New England IPA (India pale ale) pays homage to the historic Diamond District by the sea, and sports a can with gold and pink diamonds on it.
The brewery — located at 180 Commercial St. — packaged more than 560 cases of Timeless on Monday to be shipped to distributors in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Florida, Rhode Island and Ohio.
Robin Leopoldo, communications manager at Bent Water, said Timeless pays homage to the history of Lynn and the timeless qualities in the city: its people, culture, diversity, arts, food and seaside location.
“All those things have been present throughout Lynn’s history and just continue,” Leopoldo said. “Our goal has been to really pay tribute to Lynn.”
Leopoldo said Bent Water wants the names, stories and unique ingredients of the IPAs in the series to speak to Lynn and draw people in to feel excited about it.
“We want to have names that can resonate wherever people live,” Leopoldo said. “Even if you’re in Florida but are familiar with Lynn, the diamonds represent a historic part of the city that people are familiar with.”
Timeless is the second installment of five in the Lynn Tribute series, and the Bent Water’s Head Brewer Adam Denny Golab described this newest IPA as having a pineapple and citrus taste.
Denny Golab spent a few weeks researching new hops and ingredients to create the target taste he wanted to create.
“You can smell the tropical fruit and citrus taste in it,” Denny Golab said. “And as an IPA, it’s smooth, full body and low bitterness.”
Timeless was brewed with Trident, Sultana, BRU-1 and Columbus hops — none of which are common in many popular New England IPAs.
Trident is a Pacific Northwest blend of hops, which packs a citrus and tropical fruit punch. Sultana has tastes of pineapple and pine, and BRU-1 — which was developed less than two years ago — brings aromas of stone fruit and soft spice.
Denny Golab said the finished product “blends fruit notes with pine and resin for an earthy, yet tropical, New England IPA experience.”
He said making new beers like this is challenging, because he uses hops he has never used before.
“For this installment in the series, we wanted to try using some hops that don’t get as much attention,” said Denny Golab. “It’s good for us from an educational standpoint — we’re able to use this beer both to highlight another aspect of Lynn, while showing customers some hops that might be new to them.”
The first beer in the tribute series was SuperCharger. The name of that brew was a tribute to “the first American jet engine which was manufactured right here in Lynn, Mass. in 1941,” according to Bent Water’s website. Leopoldo noted SuperCharger’s success, saying it flew off the shelves when it was released in April.
Each installment in the series will be released every other month, allowing Denny Golab time to create the new tastes for the IPAs.
The tap room at Bent Water is currently closed, but they hope to reopen sometime this summer.
Timeless will be shipped out to local stores on Tuesday, and will reach other states this week.
