You’ve obviously heard of Alice in Wonderland — the heroine who went down the rabbit hole and had her entire world turned upside down.
Thursday night, we had a virtual premiere of “Alice in Rainbowland.”
The 35-minute film, put on by a group called “Queer Bodies in Motion,” is produced and directed by Lynn’s Ana Masacote, whose dance company, also based in the city, is “Dance to Power.”
Masacote grew up in Boston, and majored in business at MIT. She co-founded her first Afro-Latin dance and music company, Masacote Entertainment, while at the institute.
In 2019, she branched off as a solo artist and founded her current dance company — which is an online Afro-Latin dance academy.
“Whether I’m performing, teaching, speaking, or curating events, my goal is to bring cross-cultural communities together and spark conversations through the arts,” she said.
And, said Masacote, “I’m the proud, queer daughter of Mexican immigrants living at the intersection of multiple identities.”
“Alice in Rainbowland,” is a re-imagining of “Alice in Wonderland” told through dance, music, and LGBTQ pride. The show is devised by and highlights queer artists and allies — including dancers, musicians, and the creative community from Massachusetts, New York, and Rhode Island.
