LYNNFIELD — April Luders capped off her “Fall Sports II” indoor track season on the highest of notes on Tuesday morning, as the senior was named the Cape Ann League Baker Division Girls Athlete of the Year for her prowess on the track. Luders, who mainly competes in the 55-meter hurdles event, finished first in the hurdles at each of Lynnfield’s four meets this season.
In the winter 2019 season — the last season before the COVID-19 pandemic hit — Luders also earned CAL All-Star honors for the winter season after helping lead the Pioneers to a CAL Baker Division co-championship — the first league title for Lynnfield girls track since 1984.
But Luders wasn’t the only member of the Lynnfield track team who was honored, as girls track coach Adam Dell’Aria was named the CAL Baker Coach of the Year after leading the Pioneers to a 4-0 record and a CAL Baker Division title for the second season in a row.
Also representing Lynnfield as CAL All-Stars were John Briggs (shot put) and Mike Madden (1000 meter) on the boys side as well as Luders (hurdles), Riley Hallahan (shot put) and Lauren Braconnier (600 meter) on the girls side. The girls relay teams of Luders, Braconnier, Jasmine Rose and Madison Murphy (4×200 relay) and Luders, Braconnier, Rose and Bianca Guarracino (4×400 relay) also earned CAL All-Star honors.
The rest of the awards across the CAL went to Amesbury’s Ben Ayotte (CAL Baker Boys Athlete of the Year), Triton’s Reilly Gagnon (CAL Kinney Boys Athlete of the Year) and North Reading’s Katelyn Gorgenyi (CAL Kinney Girls Athlete of the Year). Amesbury’s Ernie Bisaillon (Boys Baker), Triton’s Joe Colbert (Boys Kinney) and Newburyport’s Brian Moore (Girls Kinney) were all named Coach of the Year in their respective divisions, while Ipswich and Manchester Essex (Boys Baker), Pentucket and Triton (Boys Kinney), Ipswich (Girls Baker) and North Reading (Girls Kinney) all earned the Sportsmanship Award.
