LYNN — Mayor Thomas M. McGee announced the three finalists for the city’s new police chief on Friday.
Capt. Mark O’Toole, Capt. Christopher Reddy, and Deputy Chief Michael Vail have been selected for consideration based on their successful completion of the required Civil Service Assessment Center exam that was conducted in March.
The three candidates will meet with a stakeholder group, convened by McGee, and will be asked to consider topics submitted by the members of the general public.
Members of the general public can submit topics of discussion they believe are important to consider in the hiring of the next chief of the Lynn Police Department at http://www.lynnma.gov/community. This link will be live until Tuesday, April 27.
McGee will then meet individually with the candidates prior to making his decision on the Lynn police chief appointment.
“I look forward to embarking on this process in hiring the new chief of police for the city of Lynn,” said McGee. “Each of the three finalists are highly qualified, and dedicated members of our Lynn Police Department. I hope the public will take advantage of this opportunity to share their thoughts on the important topics the new Lynn police chief should take into consideration before they step into this role.”
The stakeholder group will be facilitated by Lynn Schools Superintendent Dr. Patrick Tutwiler and will include Andrea Baez, the branch executive director of the Demakes Family YMCA and a member of the Greater Lynn Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors; Lt. Timothy Donovan the president of the Lynn Police Association; City Councilor At-Large and Public Safety Committee member Brian Field; Chief Kenneth Green of the MBTA Transit Police Department; the Chair of the Lynn Human Rights Commission Audrey Jimenez; the city’s solicitor George Markopoulos; and the executive director of the North Shore Latino Business Association, Frances Martinez.
The group will also include a member of the Lynn Racial Justice Coalition and a licensed professional from the Lynn Community Health Center.
In addition, McGee is in the final stages of the hiring process for the diversity, equity and inclusion officer position and he expects that officer to participate as a member of the stakeholder group as well.
McGee thanked each of the members of the stakeholder group for agreeing to participate in the process, saying their “input will be vital to making the best decision for the city of Lynn.”
