The Lynn Jets hockey team jumped out to an early lead Tuesday night against Greater Boston League foe Everett, but in the end the Jets simply couldn’t hold on in a 9-7 loss to the Crimson Tide at Allied Veterans MDC Rink in Everett.
Senior captain Matthew Patrie had two goals and one assist in the loss, while senior captain Christian Alquinta scored two goals. Seventh grader Jayson Avery had one goal and two assists, junior Gavin Kennedy scored one goal and junior Devin Copithorne had two assists. Junior Tyler Desir Kearns added one assist.
The Jets took advantage of a couple of Everett mistakes in the early minutes of the game, with Patrie jumping on a loose puck behind the net and stuffing it home less than a minute into the first period. About two minutes later, Patrie jumped a passing lane and stole the puck in the Everett zone, getting in all alone for his second goal of the game to make it 2-0 Lynn.
But Everett took over from there. The Crimson Tide scored five unanswered goals in the final 10 minutes of the first period, taking a 5-2 lead and never looking back.
Lynn did continue to rally, eventually tying the score at 5-5 in the second period before Everett closed the frame with two more goals to go ahead 7-5. The Crimson Tide held the lead from there, hanging on for the win despite two late goals from the Jets.
The Jets wrap up the regular season at 0-5 and will have a quick turnaround with another game against Everett Wednesday evening (5), this time in the first round of the GBL playoffs.
