LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield volleyball team kept its perfect record unblemished on Monday evening, getting off to a fast start in a 3-0 win over Cape Ann League foe Pentucket at home. The Pioneers won by set scores of 25-6, 25-9, 25-13.
But aside from the strong offensive play, one of the keys to Monday’s win was Lynnfield’s ability to dig out kill attempts from Pentucket throughout the entire match.
The Pioneers got off to a fast start in this one, racing out to a 6-0 lead before Pentucket called an early timeout. But the timeout didn’t help much, as Lynnfield pushed its lead to 17-1 before coasting to an easy 25-6 set victory.
And although Pentucket came out and scored the first point of the second set, Lynnfield continued the momentum from that point on. The Pioneers jumped out to a 13-2 lead before Pentucket called a timeout, once again controlling the flow of the game en route to a 25-9 set win.
While the third set was the most competitive of the three, Lynnfield still controlled things. After some back and forth over the first couple of points, Lynnfield once again pushed its lead to as many as nine points. After an ace from Ava Buonfiglio, the Pioneers took the set 25-13 and won the match.
Lynnfield (7-0) will now move on to what could be its toughest match of the season to date, as the Pioneers will host Newburyport — which has won four straight matches — Wednesday evening (5:30).
