SAUGUS — Fatima Allan will resign from her position as treasurer for Saugus Community Television due to “unforeseen personal issues,” the Board of Selectmen announced Tuesday.
Following the receival of Allan’s formal resignation, Selectwoman Debra Panetta requested that the board send a letter to Allan thanking her for her years of service to the town.
“I know she worked very, very hard, not just on the board, but on the construction (for SCTV’s new building),” Panetta said. “She really put her heart and soul into this, so I’d like us to send her a letter of thanks.”
Selectman Michael Serino echoed Panetta’s sentiment that Allan played an instrumental role in moving the station to its new location at the Saugus Historical Society building last April after its former spot inside the old Saugus High School was demolished.
“Fatima and the group that’s there now worked very hard to get the new studio built up and running, and I want to thank Fatima for her support and dedication to SCTV,” he said.
Selectman Jeff Cicolini also praised Allan’s work for the station alongside former SCTV Board of Directors President Al DiNardo.
“They were two of the original ones who really helped move this along,” he said. “It’s nice to see the cooking shows that she highly touted as the reason for the kitchen. I saw they filmed their second cooking show. I hope the community enjoys that.”
During Tuesday’s meeting, Board of Selectmen Vice Chair Corinne Riley recommended the board explore adding an sixth, non-voting member to SCTV’s five-member leadership committee as the town searches for Allan’s replacement.
Panetta later told The Item that Allan still plans to remain involved with SCTV in some capacity.
“Fatima has really been the backbone of a lot of work that’s been done with SCTV,” Panetta said. “I appreciate how much she’s done and continues to do for our community. She always goes over and above to help others.
“The hope is that more people get involved with SCTV, which continues to work to bring our community together.”
