Last-second goal lifts Peabody/Lynnfield girls hockey over Masconomet

HAVERHILL -- The Peabody/Lynnfield girls hockey team had to overcome a slow start and score with 20 seconds remaining to pull out a 2-1 victory over Masconomet on the road at Haverhill Valley Forum Tuesday afternoon. It was freshman Catie Kampersal who notched the game winner, the second of her two goals on the day.

“I think the theme of the day was just chaos,” said Peabody/Lynnfield coach Michelle Roach. “Our bus arrived an hour late, we were late getting to the rink and we were just trying to settle ourselves down in the early part of the game. We were a little shaky to start, but we kept battling the whole way and we were able to pull out the win.”

In addition to Kampersal’s two goals, senior Chloe Shapleigh, junior Jenna DiNapoli and junior Hannah Gromko each notched one assist. Junior goalie Audrey Buckley earned the win in net with 20 saves.
