It was a very pleasant Senior Night for both the St. Mary’s boys and girls basketball teams Wednesday night, as both teams earned critical victories on their home court at Tony Conigliaro Gymnasium.
The Spartans girls basketball team started fast and rode the momentum all the way to victory, notching a 72-39 win over Malden Catholic.
Prior to the game, the Spartans honored their group of five seniors — Maiya Bergdorf, Nicolette D’Itria, Van Nguyen, Alyssa Grossi and Pe’jae Parent — for their contributions to the program.
Bergdorf made the most of her Senior Night, going off for 31 points to lead the Spartans to the blowout victory.
St. Mary’s (10-1) hosts Austin Prep Friday evening (6) back at Conigliaro Gymnasium.
The St. Mary’s boys needed to rally for their win, scoring the final 10 points of the game to earn a 45-44 win over Cathedral. Omri Merryman scored the final four points of the game to give the Spartans the victory.
Prior to the game, St. Mary’s honored this year’s three seniors — Sammy Batista, Zach Barden and Keon Griffin — for their contributions to the program.
David Brown Jr. had 12 points, five rebounds and five assists in the win, while Batista added 12 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Bishop Fenwick 50, Arlington Catholic 28
Junior Olivia Found had a unique double-double in the victory for Fenwick, notching 22 points and 10 steals. Junior Nasha Arnold nearly had a double-double of her own with eight points and nine rebounds, while senior captain Veronica Tache had a full stat sheet with five points, four assists and five steals.

BOYS BASKETBALL
Bishop Fenwick 66, Arlington Catholic 54
Sophomore Che Hanks had another big game with 15 points and four rebounds for the Crusaders, while junior captain Jason Romans filled the stat sheet with 13 points, six assists and four steals. Senior captain Alex Gonzalez finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Fenwick (6-3) returns to the court Monday evening (6:30) on the road at Cathedral.
BOYS HOCKEY
St. Mary’s 3, Austin Prep 3
The Spartans recorded their second draw of the season with Austin Prep after a back-and-forth battle at Connery Rink.
Colby Magliozzi, Dante D’Ambrosio and Kyle LoNigro each scored one goal in the win.
St. Mary’s (4-1-2) hosts Bishop Feehan Saturday afternoon (4).
Lynnfield 6, Pentucket 1
Drew Damiani, Alex Buonopane, Chase Carney and Will Steadman all scored goals for the Pioneers in the victory.
Lynnfield (3-2-1) hosts Newburyport Saturday afternoon (12).
Marblehead 6, Gloucester 4
Marblehead returned to its strong play Wednesday, getting back into the win column with a conference victory at Talbot Rink.
Eli Feingold notched three goals in the victory, while Will Shull and Carter Laramie each had one goal and one assist. Connor Jalbert scored one goal, while Hogan Sedky had one assist. Goalie Nick Peters had a big game in net for the Magicians.
Marblehead (3-1-0) travels to Beverly Saturday evening (6:20).
Peabody 4, Swampscott 1
Peabody (1-3-1) hosts Saugus Saturday afternoon (4).
Zack Pierce scored the lone goal for Swampscott, while Griffin Bruhm had one assist. Goalie Ian Roddie made 28 saves in the loss.
Swampscott (0-4-1) hosts Danvers Friday night (7:30).
Winthrop 2, Masconomet 0
The Vikings notched a bit of an upset Wednesday afternoon, knocking off the previously unbeaten Chieftains on the road at Essex Sports Center in Middleton.
Winthrop (3-2-1) hosts Danvers Saturday afternoon (12:40).

Masconomet 8, Winthrop 6
Emma Holmes had two goals and one assist to lead the way for Winthrop in the loss, while Sami DiMento had one goal and two assists. Hannah Parker and Mia Norris each had one goal and one assist. Julia Holmes scored one goal, while Amelia Spencer had one assist.
Winthrop (3-1-0) travels to Marblehead Sunday afternoon (2:40).
