WEST NEWBURY — Despite keeping things close in the early part of the game, the Lynnfield girls basketball team could never quite find its rhythm in a 48-30 loss to Cape Ann League foe Pentucket on the road Tuesday evening.
Senior Ava Buonfiglio had a strong game for the Pioneers with 12 points and six rebounds, while senior Caroline Waisnor had eight points and two rebounds. Junior Riley Hallahan scored six points, sophomore Isabella George had four points and four rebounds, junior Abby Adamo had three points and three rebounds and senior Grace Klonsky scored three points.
Despite battling back and forth to a 7-7 tie in the early minutes of the game, the Pioneers fell behind 12-7 at the end of the first quarter. Pentucket continued to pile on from there, extending its lead to 13 points by halftime and then 20 points by the end of the third quarter.
But the Pioneers never stopped battling, and Lynnfield ended up having its best quarter of the game in the final frame.
Lynnfield (1-3) travels to Amesbury Friday afternoon (4).
