LYNN — Lynn resident Cinda Danh was sworn in to the Asian American Commission (AAC) at a virtual ceremony Wednesday by State Auditor Suzanne Bump.
“I’m honored to have received the Auditor’s appointment to the Asian American Commission and I am looking forward to working with members of the commission to continue to address the challenges that the AAPI (Asian American/Pacific Islander) community faces,” said Danh.
Danh is replacing Vanna Howard, who was sworn in to the Massachusetts House of Representatives Wednesday.
She will serve on the AAC for a three-year term, after which she will be eligible for reappointment.
The AAC, established in 2006, holds monthly meetings to recognize and highlight the many contributions of Asian Americans to the social, cultural, economic, and political life of the commonwealth, and to identify and address the needs and challenges facing Asian Americans in Massachusetts.
Danh who graduated from Lynn Classical in 2009 and received her Bachelor’s degree in Human Services from UMass-Boston in 2017, previously ran for Lynn Ward 6 City Councilor in 2019 on a progressive platform advocating for quality education, rent control, inclusionary zoning, tenant protections, and opposition to tax breaks for developers with a consistent record of OSHA violations.
She also served as staff director for State Representative James O’Day (D-Worcester).
Danh is a local artist, currently serving as a board member for Raw Art Works and Lynn Main Streets.
She hopes to join the subcommittee on Government Relations, Advocacy and Civil Rights.
“Asian Americans are not a monolith,” said Danh. “And I look forward to dismantling the model minority myth and advocating for legislation relative to disaggregated data.”
