It’s been a tough year for World Series Park.
At the end of last week, damage was done by vandals to the World Series Park Tot Park and a gate that connects the park to the adjacent track. The slide was cracked with a hole made in it, while the chain link on the gate was smashed inward.
This is the second incident of vandalism that has hit the Saugus park this year, with the last coming over the summer when a group of teens broke in and destroyed the pavilion’s light fixtures.
“I can’t understand why people cause such damage,” said World Series Park superintendent Bob Davis, who found the damage Saturday. “We are in the process of trying to identify the person or persons who did this by looking at surveillance video from our security cameras. If we can identify those responsible, we will ask for restitution.”
The latest incident is a disappointing one for Davis, as the park has been raising funds to install lights for night games since last year.
“We’re trying to save money for our lighting project and I don’t appreciate having to use funds to replace the chain link for the gate and the purchase of a new slide, which is quite costly,” said Davis. “We raised money for the Tot Park ten years ago to provide the children with a place to swing and slide. It looks like the slide was damaged by an impact from a bicycle.”
Anyone who may have witnessed this vandalism or with knowledge of it is asked to contact the Saugus Police or Bob Davis at 781-233-4555.
