Following a season that saw him break several records on the course, Swampscott native and St. Mary’s junior star Aidan Emmerich took home yet another honor this week when he was named MVP of the Catholic Central League when the golf all-stars were released Tuesday.
Emmerich’s resume for his junior season included winning the CCL Championship with a tournament record score of 3-under 66 at Hillview Country Club, a program record 42-point performance (where he shot 3-under) in a win over St. Joseph’s Prep and a scoring average of well over 30 points per match.
And Emmerich’s strong play wasn’t limited to when he was wearing the Spartans uniform. Over the summer, Emmerich qualified for his first Massachusetts Amateur Championship (played at the iconic Kittansett Club) with scores of 73-73 in stroke play before becoming the youngest player to make it to the match-play Round of 32.
He also earned medalist honors in the stroke play portion of the Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship with a score of 4-under 68 at Cranberry Valley Golf Course.
But Emmerich wasn’t the only St. Mary’s golfer to earn all-star honors. Seniors Luke Smith and Peter Pagliuca were also named CCL All-Stars, as was junior Sean Mathers.
The Spartans wrapped up the shortened 2020 season with a deceiving 6-10 record before winning the CCL Championship as a team behind Emmerich’s individual championship performance. Smith, Pagliuca and Mathers all contributed to the championship-winning team score.
Elsewhere in the CCL, the Bishop Fenwick golf team had five players named as CCL All-Stars in seniors Cade Buckley, Gavin Belt, John Bennett, Brandon Bloom and junior Steven Woods. Buckley, Belt and Bennett served as team captains for the Crusaders during their 2020 campaign, which ended with a 12-2 record. Woods, who normally plays football in the fall, was named an all-star in his first season of varsity golf.
