LYNN — Authorities have identified the person pulled out of Sluice Pond Saturday morning as a 49-year-old Lynn man.
The man, who has been identified as William Sciretto, had been reported missing by his girlfriend early Saturday morning, according to Carrie Kimball, spokesperson for the Essex County District Attorney’s office.
In her report, the woman had indicated Sciretto would often go fishing at Sluice Pond, Kimball said.
Three days earlier, on Nov. 11, a man who had been fishing in Sluice Pond had alerted police about a fishing rod he had found in the water, along with a tackle box that was lying on the shoreline, Kimball said.
Following the two matching reports, the State Police Dive Team was deployed at 8 a.m. Saturday to look for the man in the area of 177 Lynnfield St., which is located in the back of the Knights of Columbus, Kimball said.
“They recovered the body about 20 minutes later,” said Kimball. “Foul play is not suspected.”
The cause and manner of death is pending the results of an autopsy conducted by the medical examiner’s office, but Sciretto appears to have died from an accidental drowning, Kimball said.
“It’s not suspicious,” said Kimball. “The area where the tackle box and all of that was found is near a steep hill and there were leaves and it is very slippery. It’s also rocky.”
