BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
St. John’s Prep 25, BC High 31
The Eagles locked up at least a share of the Catholic Conference title with Tuesday’s victory over conference rival BC High.
Halfway through the contest, the outcome was still in doubt with BC High’s Gemsley Cajuste battling with the Prep’s George Nikolakopoulos and Charlie Tuttle for the top spot. Just behind the lead group, BC High had a tightly packed group of four runners that were keeping the score very close. With a mile to go, Nikolakopoulos pulled away by several yards while Cajuste and Tuttle continued their battle for the second spot. In the end, Tuttle was just able to nip Cajuste for the silver by less than one second.
Two Prep sophomores, Paul Lovett and Marco Bussone, were then able to break up the BC High pack and give the Prep a hard fought victory by the score 25 to 31.
St. John’s Prep (3-0) will host Catholic Memorial Wednesday (4).
