BOYS SOCCER
St. John’s Prep 0, St. John’s (Shrewsbury) 0
The St. John’s Prep soccer team kicked off it’s season Tuesday afternoon, tying St. John’s (Shrewsbury) on the road. Both teams had to make adjustments with the new soccer guidelines and neither was able to capitalize on the offensive end in the 0-0 tie.
“It was evenly matched all the way through,” Eagles coach Dave Crowell said. “It was really surreal, there were so many whistles. Everyone on both sides had to adjust to that throughout the game.”
Junior Joey Waterman got the shutout in net with four saves while Alex Borkland and David Armini anchored the defense and held off any Shrewsbury scoring chances.
With one game behind them, Crowell hopes the Eagles can continue to improve with games that feature more stoppages than seasons in the past.
“I think it’s going to be about adjusting more and more each day,” Crowell said. “It depends how tight the officials call each game but it’s something that both teams have to find a way to deal with.”
The Eagles (0-0-1) host Malden Catholic Friday (5).
GIRLS SOCCER

The Big Blue (0-1) will host Masconomet Friday evening (5:30).
