Despite trailing 1-0 at halftime, the St. Mary’s girls soccer team continued to fight and eventually pulled out a 3-1 victory over Malden Catholic on the road Monday afternoon.

Brooke Moloney, Julia Nickolau and Sophie Skabeikis each scored one goal for the Spartans in the win.

Moloney got things started for St. Mary’s early in the third quarter, scoring to tie the game at 1-1 just 18 seconds into the frame. Nickolau added the go-ahead goal just over six minutes later before Skabeikis added a late insurance goal in the fourth to secure the victory.

St. Mary’s (2-0) will travel to Archbishop Williams Wednesday afternoon (4).

The Spartans pulled ahead late in the match and held a slim lead with the final foursome on the course, but Feehan was able to pull off the win at the last minute at Tedesco Country Club.

“It was the same story for us as it’s been all season so far, we got a lot of great contributions at the top of the lineup but not much from the bottom half,” said Spartans coach Jay Fiste.

Aidan Emmerich and Luke Smith had great performances in the loss, each shooting even-par and each notching 36 points for the Spartans. Peter Pagliuca was right behind with 30 points, while Jackson Field put up 20 points. Sean Mathers added 19 points, while Terance Moynihan had 16 points.

St. Mary’s (0-3) is right back to work Tuesday (2:30) with a road match against Cardinal Spellman at D.W. Fields Golf Course.

Newburyport 151, Lynnfield 75

The Pioneers (0-2) are back in action Thursday (3:30) when they host Manchester-Essex at Sagamore Spring Golf Club.
