SWAMPSCOTT — A 16-year-old male was shot and wounded Saturday night in Swampscott, police said.
Swampscott Police Sgt. Jay Locke said that at approximately 9:30 p.m., the department received calls reporting multiple gunshots in the area near Maple Avenue and Burrill Street. Locke said that when police arrived at the scene, they were directed to a residence where the teenager had been shot in the hand.
The teen was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where he was reported to be in good condition, Swampscott Police said.
“The juvenile’s injuries are believed to be non-life threatening, but this is still a very active and ongoing situation and investigation,” said Locke.
Swampscott Police are investigating the incident, with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police, Crime Scene Services Unit, Ballistic Unit, and the State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit with a firearms detection K9.
