LYNN — A Lynn Police officer suspected something fishy when he noticed a man running down the street with a bag full of something on Wednesday.
It turns out the man had worked with someone to steal hundreds of dollars worth of salmon and other frozen meats from PriceRite on the Lynnway, according to Lynn Police Lt. Michael Kmiec.
When he saw the officer, who had been working a road job, the suspect dropped the bag and kept running, Kmiec said.
“At the time the officer saw him running, they suspected he was shoplifting because he dropped the fish,” said Kmiec.
A total of $421 worth of frozen meats and fish was stolen from the discount grocery store, according to Kmiec.
A manager from PriceRite, who declined to be identified, said two people had been working together to steal the meats. One man walked out with a full carriage and another man left with a backpack full of meat.
The store was notified of the theft by police, according to the manager.
One man, Elidio Guzman, has been arrested and the other suspect is still on the loose, Kmiec said.
Guzman, 46, of Lynn, was charged with shoplifting and on past warrants for breaking and entering and larceny charges.
