North Shore Community College’s (NSCC) search for a new president will include advice from a resident living in a community surrounding its campuses.
“As we launch our presidential search, we’re looking forward to incorporating voices from our community,” said Dr. J.D. LaRock, Chair of the NSCC Board of Trustees. “North Shore has always been deeply in touch with the priorities of our region’s employers, residents, and taxpayers. Including a community representative on the presidential search committee will help ensure that these priorities will be reflected in the choice of our next leader.”
Community members interested in being selected to serve should email Dr. LaRock at [email protected], cc’ing VP of Human Resource Development Madeline Wallis at [email protected] by Friday, Sept. 18. The Board hopes to approve the search committee at its Tuesday, Sept. 22 meeting.
Most of the search work will take place in January to March 2021, according to a college statement.
NSCC trustees selected Dr. Nate Bryant on April 9 to serve as college interim president. Bryant began serving a one-year term in July upon the retirement of Dr. Patricia A. Gentile, the college’s fourth president.
NSCC has campuses in Lynn, Danvers and Middleton.
The trustees hired presidential search firm R.H. Perry and the search is expected to identify a final candidate by late spring of 2021.
The search committee will review and evaluate all qualified applications, select candidates for interview, conduct candidate interviews, and recommend to the Board of Trustees three to five finalists, from which the next president will be chosen, subject to Massachusetts Board of Higher Education approval.
Search committee members will be required to attend two meetings lasting about three hours each, spend several days reviewing and evaluating candidate materials, and devote approximately 8-12 hours to interviewing candidates.
Dr. Bryant has 30-plus years of experience in public higher education, including senior-level leadership in enrollment management, student support services, and fundraising. He is a longtime resident of Salem and civic leader in the region, serving on the boards of the North Shore Medical Center, Salem Chamber of Commerce, and Marblehead Bank, among other organizations.
The 13-member search committee will include three faculty members, two professional staff members, a support staff member, a student, an administrator, one community member, one representative of the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education, and three trustees.
