Behind strong pitching and some timely hitting, the Lynn Babe Ruth 15s were able to notch a 5-2 win over visiting Reading in a pool play game during the newly established “COVID Games” event at Clancy Field Tuesday night.
Despite being a highly touted catcher, Brendan Falasca got the nod on the mound for Lynn in Tuesday night’s win, tossing three-plus innings and allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts. After Falasca left the game in the fourth inning with some arm trouble, Yordy Contreras came in to finish the game in relief.
On the offensive side for Lynn, Brady Bullock and Christian Spates each notched one RBI to lead the way.
Defensively, catcher Channel Gutierrez had his arm tested repeatedly and he answered by continually throwing out the aggressive Reading baserunners. Daniel Ortiz made a couple of stellar plays at shortstop as well.
“The boys came to play tonight, they were focused and aggressive from the very beginning,” said Lynn 15s manager Christian Burt. “We will continue to work hard to refine their game and if hard work is any indication then we should do well in the coming days. These guys clearly want this and won’t settle for anything less than winning.”
The Lynn 15s were supposed to be right back in action Wednesday night, but the game was postponed due to rain. They will be back on the field Friday night (7) back at Clancy Field.
