BOSTON — A 25-year-old Lynn man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery and shooting that left a store clerk with life-threatening injuries in Roxbury last month, police said.
Stephon Samuel was arrested on a warrant Friday and charged with armed robbery by means of a firearm, armed assault with intent to murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and as an armed career criminal level 1.
Samuel was arrested following a thorough investigation by the Boston Police Department Homicide Unit and BPD Forensics Unit, in conjunction with the Brockton Police Department and the FBI Boston Violent Crimes Task Force, police said.
Shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, police responded to a call for a person shot in the area of 718 Shawmut Ave. in Roxbury and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds.
The victim, identified by authorities as Tanjim Siam, a clerk at the M&R convenience store, remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
“I want to thank the Boston Police homicide unit and the BPD Forensics unit for their excellent work in this horrifying case,” said Suffolk District Attorney Rachael Rollins. “Today we got to tell Tanjim Siam’s family that we found the person that shot Tanjim and left him for dead.
“We continue to pray for Mr. Siam’s recovery as he remains in critical condition. My office will do everything to hold Mr. Samuel accountable for his violent disregard for life and the unimaginable pain he has caused Mr. Siam’s family.”
Prosecutors said an investigation, which included video surveillance from the store, has revealed Siam complied with Samuel’s demands and turned over cash from the register.
“That was not enough for Mr. Samuel,” said Rollins. “He took Tanjim into a different part of the store and attempted to execute him. Mr. Siam survived and is clinging to life as we speak. He is a fighter and we are hoping for his full recovery. My heart goes out to his family.
“I hope that holding Mr. Samuel responsible for his brazen violence, which we fully intend to do, brings the Siam family some small amount of solace.”
Samuel is currently in custody at the Plymouth County House of Corrections on unrelated charges and will be arranged at a later date.
