Lynn, Revere see double-digit surge in virus cases

Lynn and Revere both reported a double-digit increase in new coronavirus cases on Tuesday as the state continues to experience a surge.

With 24 new cases reported on Tuesday, Lynn now has 4,043 cases.

Of the city’s total number of cases, 571 are active, 111 residents have died and 3,361 have recovered from the virus, according to city data.

Revere reported 20 new cases on Tuesday to bring the city’s caseload to 2,066. Ninety-three residents have died and 1,678 have recovered.

The significant uptick in new cases is reflected in data released by the state Department of Public Health last week, which shows that Lynn and Revere are among the state leaders in terms of their 14-day positive rate.

Elsewhere, Lynnfield (106 cases, 11 deaths) and Nahant (50 cases, six deaths) reported no change in their numbers on Tuesday and case and death counts were not updated in Marblehead, Peabody, Saugus and Swampscott.

As of Monday, Marblehead has 251 cases and 30 deaths, Peabody has 1,151 cases and 174 deaths, and Swampscott reported 145 cases and 10 deaths. Numbers have not been updated in Saugus (579 cases, 38 deaths) since last Thursday.
