NAHANT — The Swampscott, Nahant and Marblehead Democratic town committees will hold the first District 6 congressional debate Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
The tri-town committees are sponsoring the debate ahead of the Sept. 1 primary.
All three candidates — Rep. Seth Moulton, Angus McQuilken, and Jamie Zahlway Belsito — will participate. The candidates and moderator, Jim Peterson, will be on site at the Nahant Town Hall. Filmed by Nahant’s cable TV, without an audience, the debate will be live streamed to YouTube: https://youtu.be/-ztpZe5bwDc.
The chairs in the three towns — Renee Ramirez Keaney of Marblehead, Jim Walsh of Nahant and Debbie Friedlander, Swampscott — say it’s their intention “to provide an interesting and substantive debate. With questions intended to illuminate their differences, perspectives and approaches, voters will be able assess each candidate’s response to solve the challenges we face as a district and a nation.”
Moulton, the incumbent, was elected in 2014. He served four tours of duty in Iraq as a U.S. marine and earned master’s degree in business and public policy at Harvard. He announced his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination a year ago in August.
McQuilken has 27 years of experience in leadership positions in communications, marketing, business development and public affairs.
After nine years as the state’s lead communicator in life sciences, he is now involved with sciences practice growth initiatives for McDermott Will & Emery.
He announced his candidacy in March.
Belsito, of Topsfield, worked as volunteer on the campaign of Republican Richard Tisei, Moulton’s opponent in 2014. Unenrolled at the time, she has since signed on as a Democrat. She is the founder of the Maternal Mental Health Leadership Alliance of Greater Boston.
