I am writing to let you know of some serious issues that have been occurring in downtown Lynn, including homeless and drug-using people sleeping on the commuter rail platform and urinating and defecating in a public space, as well as trash and graffiti.
I understand that many of these issues are correlated to and perpetuated by the major issue that we have in Lynn with opioids and other drugs, as well as a large homeless population.
I also realize how COVID-19 is adding to this issue, though last summer was not a great summer either and we had many incidents but saw more police activity/presence last year which seemed to tame it somewhat.
The reality is that longtime residents are leaving and selling their property instead of dealing with these types of issues.
I reached out to our local legislators and the police and MBTA. The Lynn police responded and we had a community meeting with them a few weeks ago.
Since then there have continued to be quality-of-life issues, but we feel that the Lynn police have done a great job trying to be effective and communicating with the local residents.
Three condominium homeowners associations, including the one that I am a part of, are sending letters to the MBTA to try and get this dire situation handled more effectively on their end.
