LYNN — Lynn reported 50 new coronavirus cases Tuesday, but that is with an asterisk.
Although Tuesday’s data shows a significant spike compared to daily case increases over the past two months, the number reflects more than a week’s worth of test results.
According to the mayor’s office, the Lynn Department of Public Health has confirmed the increase is due to a delay in reporting results from the COVID-19 test lab.
“These tests were conducted since last Monday, July 20 at the two “Stop the Spread” testing sites at the Lynn Community Health Center and the Health Innovations Mobile site,” said a statement from Mayor Thomas M. McGee’s office.
Still, it’s worth noting that more than 20 new cases have not been reported on any given day in Lynn since Friday, May 22, when 21 new cases were reported in that 24-hour period.
Of the city’s 3,900 cases, 479 are active and 3,311 residents have recovered from the virus, according to city data.
But the city reported no additional deaths on Tuesday to keep the COVID-19 death toll at 110.
With two new cases reported, Nahant has the same number of cases over the entire outbreak, 50, as the increase Lynn reported on Tuesday. The town has reported six deaths.
Numbers remained the same in Lynnfield (104 cases, 11 deaths) and were not updated in Marblehead, Peabody, Revere, Saugus and Swampscott.
As of Monday, Marblehead had reported 246 cases and 30 deaths, Peabody has 1,112 cases and 172 deaths, and Revere has 1,962 cases and 91 deaths.
Saugus (571 cases, 38 deaths) and Swampscott (138 cases, nine deaths) have not released updated numbers since last Wednesday.
