LYNNFIELD — Virtual sing-alongs, summer reading, yoga, magic shows and art, along with a chat with a local cookbook author on how to perfect homemade meals, are among the new programs the Lynnfield Public Library is offering this summer.
The summer reading program kicked off this week with “Sciencetellers’ Dragons, Return of the Ice Sorceress.” Children, tweens, and teens can register for summer reading at https://forms.gle/ujciXXGkztyauGQD7. Adults (ages 18+) can register at https://forms.gle/W618Ri42C2hdd6g2A.
Virtual story time videos, featuring picture book read-alouds and songs with Youth Services Librarian Lauren Fox, will be held every Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. For older kids, tweens and teens, Fox will read excerpts from I Can Make This Promise by Christine Day on Mondays and Fridays. These videos, as well as older story time videos, will be available all summer on the library’s Facebook page. For those without access to Facebook, a weekly email service can be arranged by emailing Fox at [email protected] to receive videos.
The “Magic Fred Magic Show” will be offered July 15 starting at 2 p.m. The program is designed for children aged 5-10, but younger and older children are welcome to participate and try to learn a new trick or two. Registration is required to receive a Zoom link to join the show.
Weekly wellness events on Zoom are also being offered this summer. “Yoga Flow” with Tanny Irrera will be held every Thursday at 12 p.m. “Mindfulness Workshops” with Vasundhra Ganju will offer breathing and relaxation techniques every Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
A pre-recorded “Sing-Along with Tom Sieling” will be featured from July 13-27 for children of all ages. The link will be posted on the library’s Facebook page starting July 13. For those without Facebook, email Fox at for the link.
Cookbook author Alana Chernila will present a show on Wednesday, July 15, at 6:30 p.m. on how to use pantry staples to make tasty homemade meals. Based in western Massachusetts, Chernila is the author of three cookbooks, The Homemade Pantry, The Homemade Kitchen and Eating From the Ground Up. Advance registration is required.
On Thursday, July 16, from 4-4:30 p.m. the library presents “Girls Can Do Anything,” a program that invites children aged 7-18 to listen and learn about females who have achieved in the areas of scientific discoveries, inventions and social movements. Registration is required to receive a Zoom link to the virtual presentation.
Budding artists between the ages of 11 and 18 are encouraged to attend the “Anamorphic Drawing with Pop Up Art School” on Monday, July 20, from 2-3 p.m. Participants will learn how to create a drawing that uses forced perspective to create a floating illusion. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link.
