Saint Michael’s College men’s golf has found itself well represented across New England this summer, as current student-athletes and incoming first-years alike have competed for a chance to take part in their respective state’s amateur championships. Rising sophomore and Marblehead native Brendan Locke qualified for the Massachusetts Amateur Championship, set for later this month, while incoming first-year Aidan Stuart (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) took part in June’s Connecticut Amateur Championship.
Locke will make his Massachusetts Amateur Championship debut on July 13 at the Kittansett Club in Marion thanks to firing a 1-over 78 to tie for eighth place during a qualifier at Renaissance Golf Club in Haverhill on June 19. Locke was only four strokes short of the leader. During his first attempt at qualifying last year, Locke missed the cut by six shots after playing in the 2018 Massachusetts Junior Amateur Championship.
In his debut season with the St. Michael’s golf team last fall, Locke averaged 79.90 strokes while finishing second at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship with a score of 2-under 70.
